Cutie on T.V.

We're in Oahu this week while Mat does some recruiting for the Census Bureau at the University Job Fairs. So basically Lana and I get to play while Mat semi-works. It's great. Anyway, yesterday Mat was interviewed for the local news. We were excited to watch it on tv last night. That's Mat's three seconds of fame. He looked so cute. :) Lana really had fun seeing Dad on tv as well.

Celebrity Spot

Before I forget my rare celebrity sighting let me just post that I saw John Michael Higgins at Ikea. It was totally him. Anyway, I knew that I'd seen something recently with him in it and I just remembered it was "Yes Man" with Jim Carrey. Anyway, I hope that I will be able to add to my small list of celebrity sightings. I think the coolest one I've seen so far here in L.A. is Eddie Murphy with my mother and brother-in-law. Oh, and my sister and I saw Don Cheadle in Santa Monica. Who would I LOVE to see? hmmm...I'll have to think about that. What about you guys?

What I aim for...

I'm the worst and doing my hair. It's either in a bun, ponytail, straightened or with my bangs pinned in a "poof." That is pretty much the only things I know how to do with my hair. Any suggestions or tips on how to curl or do SOMETHING ELSE with it, please let me know. Today I had a wake up call when I did the "poof" that I usually do and Lana says, "Mom...your hair looks just like Jimmy Neutron!" That's what I aim for. I guess from now on I'll call in the Jimmy 'do. haha.

I love Trader Joes

This is a quick tribute to one of my favorite little grocery stores: Trader Joes. They have a fun selection of yummy organic food. (It has to be yummy or it's a no-go for me) And I always feel like I can put meals together easily after shopping there unlike other stores when I spend tons of money and get home and can't think of what to make for dinner! Also, they have great prices. Tonight we stopped there to grab a few things and Lana refused to sit in the cart. I let her walk beside me through the store and as I was trying to reach something across the aisle I heard a loud crash and then Lana screaming. As I turned around I see the cart overturned and Lana holding her hand and crying. (She tried to stand on the side of the cart and it was empty so it just overturned and landed on her hand) I just left the cart and took her out to the car and tried to see if she was okay. One of the workers quickly came to see if she was okay and fixed my cart. I left Lana with Mat in the car while I went to finish shopping really quick and that same worker came out with a few lollipops for Lana to cheer her up. I was so grateful that they didn't make a big deal out of it and were really sweet to her. So in the end she was alright and learned a good lesson about not hanging on the shopping carts and mommy still got to buy all her favorite foods.

Yikes!

Lana and I love to go for our walks. It's nice to get out of the house and Lana will either love to walk for a bit and look at flowers and jump around or sit in the stroller and watch the world pass by or fall asleep. I do like that last one! Anyway, on this particular day we were out for a walk and the sun was in her eyes so I put my jacket over the top leaving the little window open so I can check on her every now and then. After going quite a ways in silence I figured she had fallen asleep and looked down to see...I think I screamed out loud when I saw her staring right back at me. The rest of the way home she kept turning around and trying to scare me again. We had quite a good laugh together. My little stinker!

Words from the Wise

Last night we had a combined fireside with 7 different stakes to hear Sister Beck, the General Relief Society President. I thought it was an especially nice treat to hear her since I've never been to general conference. Of course the building was stuffed with women and you can just imagine the chitter chatter. I'm so glad that I went though because she was such a powerful speaker. She just spoke so freely and with the Spirit and I thought that it was brave of her to take questions from the audience for the majority of the talk. I'd be scared to death to do that! Not only did she answer the questions of all these different women, I think she also elaborated on the topic very well and really went into some doctrine (all off the top of her head!) She talked about the roles of mothers and women, how to strengthen the home and families, good habits, what to do when children stray, etc. Anyway, today I feel a little more motivated to fulfill my role as a wife, mother, sister, daughter and be more faithful.

It's a....BABY!

I had my first prenatal appointment this week and was dying to know what's going on in my tummy. I figured I was about 15 weeks along and when they said they'd be doing an ultra-sound to make sure, I had to smile because I thought they'd be able to tell me if it's a boy or girl as well as how old it was. So...to make a long story short, I found out it's healthy, active and...13 and a half weeks old. That's it. The doctor put the machine away and I was like, "were you able to see the sex of the baby?" And he said, "Oh, I wasn't really looking for that right now but we're scheduling you in to come back for another ultra-sound in a few weeks." (I was hoping he'd just turn the machine on again. Oh well.

The fun thing about the appointment was Lana. She was so cute about the whole thing. First of all, she gets a kick out of the fact that I have to pee in a cup. She really gets a good laugh out of that. She also likes watching me get blood drawn and told the nurse, "USE A BIG NEEDLE!" Watching all the other people get shots, she also told them, "Be brave and don't cry, ok?" During the ultra-sound she really brightened up. She got as close to the screen as she could and like watching the baby do flips (over and over and over). She told the doctor that when the baby comes out it's coming to her birthday party. Haha, I hate to burst her bubble on that one...

Anyway, I feel more like I'm officially preggers now that I've seen the little one. Here's to getting my ravenous appetite back in a few days hopefully!
